Room to Improve
by Cherome Owens
So far this season, Rashad has shown he can be a potent scorer, and incredibly, he's doing it while shooting the ball less accurately than usual.
Timberwolves.com writer James Morris did a Week 4 fantasy report, and noted that No.1 continues to put up good numbers in the scoring column shooting under 40 percent so far this season.
“Rashad McCants has proven he can score in the NBA with his 11 points per game average, but he has done it while shooting just 35.6 percent from the field.”
No.1 is one of four Wolves who play often and isn’t shooting the ball as well as last season. However, Morris said Rashad’s and the rest of the Wolves shooting percentages will only improve as the season continues.
”With four players of consequence shooting under 40 percent from the field (McCants at 35.6, Foye at 34.7, Corey Brewer at 38.2, and Telfair at 32.4), no team is going to win many games like that. Stick with it Timberwolves fans, it will get better as the team gels.”
With 95 shot attempts -- third most on the team -- look for No.1 to keep putting it up.
IMPROVING
Although No.1 and the Wolves haven’t won a game since opening night and are currently in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, coach Randy Wittman truly believes they are much better than they were last season.
“We’re in every game,” he said. “We’re leading (by) double digits. I don’t know what the stat is, number of minutes led compared to the number of minutes not led, but it’s got to be pretty close. When you’re 1-8, it’s usually pretty drastic the other way.”
No.1 will try to help end his team’s losing streak tonight at the Target Center when they face the 76ers at 7 p.m.
