Nearly There
by Jason Grodsky
Rashad is becoming Minnesota's comeback kid.
When it looked like the Timberwolves were down and out on Sunday against Memphis, No. 1 did his best to try and bring the Timberwolves back to life. But the Grizzles (21-56) held off Minnesota’s rally, winning 113-101.
Memphis opened an early big lead against Minnesota, but Rashad woke up the Timberwolves offense, coming off the bench to score 16 points.
As described by the Associated Press:
“Minnesota steadily whittled away at the deficit thanks to reserves Rashad McCants and Snyder, who combined for 20 first-half points.”
After being down by as many as 13 points, the Timberwolves finally closed the gap on a step-back jumper by Rashad with 4:41 remaining to close Memphis’ lead to 98-97.
That would be as close as Minnesota (19-57) would get the rest of the way.
EDGED IN PHOENIX
McCants scored seven of his 10 points in the first half of Friday’s 117-88 loss to Phoenix.
No. 1 was the only Minnesota reserve to reach double-figures in the scoring column, but the Timberwolves were out muscled inside by Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O’Neal.
Rashad also added three rebounds and two assists in the defeat to the Suns (51-25).
NEXT UP
Rashand and Minnesota head out on the road to Charlotte to take on the Bobcats (29-48) on Tuesday at 6 PM.
